ORIGINS

Jan & Judy’s

Sweet Start

In the early 1980’s, Jan (a Dutchman ) and Judy (a ranch girl) settled down in Yellowstone County and got cooking. Before dawn, they would bike down 17th Street to begin the day’s treats. Working 16 hours a day, 6 days a week, Jan and Judy established a cherished Billings institution. The cafe at 1707 17th Street is loved by all ages for it’s soups, baked goods, and—of course—the Caramel Cookie Waffles.

Montana’s Stroopwafels

News of these delicious chewy, crispy, waffle cookies traveled fast. But “Stroopwafels” (the traditional Dutch name) were unfamiliar to eastern Montana. So, the "Dutch Stroopwafel” became the Montana Caramel Cookie Waffle. Over the years the recipe has been tweaked and perfected to transform the Dutch Stroopwafel into the new and improved Caramel Cookie Waffle.
